Lifeblood: A Book of Poems

by Professor Joel Hayward

Lifeblood: A Book of Poems was my first published collection of poetry, published in 2003 by Totem Press. It contained my favourite 100 or so poems from the 500 that I wrote between the ages of 17 and 39. It is now available in Kindle format from HERE.

My second major collection, Splitting the Moon: A Collection of Islamic Poetry, has just been published by Kube Publishers. Buy it HERE.

Lifeblood gained very positive reviews, with the Evening Standard, for example, calling it "memorable and insightful" and giving it "thumbs up".

Chaff's reviewer wrote:

"Hayward's eclectic poetry reflects his enigmatic mind. ... His poems are passionate and full of rich images and exert a strong and dignified intelligence. Hayward exerts a courageous strength, rebelling against his past creative constraints, and in perhaps a flush of originality and ambitious flair, has achieved a work of art."

Given that Lifeblood is now out of print, I have decided to post a sample of its poems here. I hope you will enjoy reading them as much as I enjoyed writing them. Please buy the book in Kindle format from HERE.
